8 speed internal gears
This is a real rarity - Shimano's high end 'Alfine' 8-speed internal gears! The huge advantage of these over derailleur systems is virtually zero maintenance, no chance of accidental damage to the gears and light, easy shifting (you can even change gear when you're not pedalling).
The 8 speeds represent a 307% gear range... so the derailleur equivalent would be about 11-34 teeth - quite a big range! Add to this, the chainring is relatively small and the rear sprocket relatively large, meaning it's quite low geared. What you have here is a bike that is well suited to a hilly environment, like, ummm, Hobart.
The bike came in with rim brakes but we've seized the opportunity to upgrade it with a full hydraulic disc brake setup. Also low maintenance, but with excellent braking power and control.
If this is the kind of bike you're after, and it's your size, act fast. A new equivalent would cost in the region of $1200-$1500... so this is a bargain.
